Aches and Praise Two Hundred & Seventy Three

Dear friends,

Have you seen the commercial on television where a person with a cell phone is moving around trying to get a signal? Do you sometimes feel like you are in a “dead zone” spiritually and wonder if God hears you? Our emotions can cause us to feel like we’re on a roller coaster.

Yesterday, I received a phone call from J.P. in Montreal.  He asked: “Can you hear the difference in my voice?” When I phoned him on Monday to see how he was, he told me that he was disappointed that a brother in Christ had not returned his phone call. Two days later, his cheerful voice reflected the change in his outlook. Living in a facility for mental health patients, J.P. faces numerous challenges. Please pray that he will continue to read God’s Word and grow in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

If you are experiencing a variety of emotions, there could be a number of factors involved, including lack of sleep. When Elijah told God that he was the only one in Israel who had not bowed to the false god Baal, God responded by telling him that there were 7,000 believers. In his study Bible, Dr. David Jeremiah writes: “Of all the giants that Elijah faced, perhaps none so devastated him as the giant of fatigue. He had poured every ounce of strength into his work for the Lord, and following his fire-and-brimstone sermon in 1 Kings 18, he fled to the desert, where he collapsed in utter exhaustion and discouragement and asked to die. From his fatigued perspective, it seemed as though he had won a battle but was losing the war. ”

May we look to the Lord for strength, so that we will walk in His ways and point others to the only One who can set us free from sin.

Scripture for the weekend: “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:15-16 (NKJV)

Thought for the weekend:  “‘You are no saint,’ says the devil. Well, if I am not, I am a sinner, and Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. Sink or swim, I go to Him; other hope, I have none.” – Charles Spurgeon (from the website: www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/c/charles_spurgeon.html)

By His grace,

Steve
