Aches and Praise Four Hundred & Fifteen

August 22, 2019

Dear friends,

Last Sunday, Karen played the piano in a church near our home and we had the delight of meeting a man with a lovely Scottish accent, which reminded us of a wonderful servant of the Lord that we had the joy of meeting a number of years ago: Dr. John Moore. In looking on the Internet this week, I learned that Dr. Moore went to be with the Lord in 2017. He wrote more than 150 songs, including “Burdens are Lifted at Calvary.” You can see Dr. Moore preach and sing when he was 87 at: https://www.sermonaudio.com/playpopupvideo.asp?SID=4211321501310

On Tuesday, I watched part of a video series by Lee Strobel entitled “The Case for a Creator.” In it, some amazing statistics were given about gravity and other forces that point to a divine designer. In Dr. Moore’s message, he also looks at evidences for a divine designer of the world.

This morning, I listened to a message by Dr. John MacArthur, in which he said that every day, about 100,000 people enter eternity. He referenced the Rose Bowl in southern California being at full capacity to show the enormity of that number. From outer space, a metropolis like Los Angeles can be identified because of the cluster of light emanating from it. May people everywhere see with spiritual eyes that God so loved the world that He sent His only son, Jesus, to Earth to die on the cross for our sins.

Scripture for the weekend: “The people who walk in darkness will see a great light; those who live in a dark land, the light will shine on them.” Isaiah 9:2 (NASB)

Thought for the weekend: “All of us are born in the shadow of Death. It could come for us at any moment. We don’t like to think about it, but that’s the fact. Beyond our physical death lies the ‘second death’ – eternal judgment – unless we have received eternal life. So the most important question you and I must settle is whether we have believed in Jesus and received from His hand the gift of eternal life.” – Ray C. Stedman (from his book “God’s Loving Word”)

By His grace,

Steve
