How to have Eternal Life
Epicurus, the Greek philosopher, said: « Each of us leaves life with the feeling that he has just been born, » while according to the Arabic proverb, « Death is closer to us than the eyelid of the eye. »

The thoughtful man therefore thinks of the afterlife, but only one throughout the history of mankind has triumphed over death; one who spoke with authority and simplicity of eternal life – Jesus Christ.

What is eternal life?
Eternal life is a life that never ends, and moreover, has a spiritual dimension. Jesus told His listeners, « I tell you the truth, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. » The Gospel according to John 5:24.
His listeners were alive, but because of sin (and all are sinners) they were dead spiritually. Many brilliant men are nevertheless agnostics, atheists, because they are spiritually dead. Their relationship with God is broken, for they do not know Him. Jesus said to His Father, « Now this is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. » John 17:3

You and eternal life
« Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does not believe God has made Him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about His Son. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. » First epistle of John 5:10-12.
The theme of the Holy Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, is that of the Redeemer, the Son of God. Over 300 prophecies were fulfilled to the letter in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.It is God speaking to you and if you do not believe in this message, or if you modify it, you make God a liar and you bring upon yourself everlasting destruction, far from the presence of the Lord.But, if by faith you receive Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, you will live forever.
Jesus knocks at the door of your life. He wants to give you eternal life. You can experience the forgiveness of sin, peace and communion with God, and the power of a new and spiritual life. This life also has an eternal dimension; therefore, death is not the end but the dawn of an eternal and glorious day in the presence of Jesus Christ and His Father.

How do we receive eternal life?
« For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. » John 3:16.
What needs to be done to inherit eternal life? We must trust in Jesus Christ. Sin caused death: spiritual and physical. Every man is spiritually dead and all die physically. Jesus paid the debt of our sin and therefore, if we are willing to turn from our sins and trust Him, He will forgive us and give us eternal life, for « the Son gives life to whom He is pleased to give it. » John 5.21

Can we know that we have eternal life?
The apostle John completed his first epistle with the words, « I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. » 1 John 5:13. Jesus gave this assurance to the repentant thief, telling him, « today you will be with Me in paradise. » The Gospel according to Luke 23:43

Can you lose eternal life?
In this case it would not be eternal. Moreover, Jesus said, « And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that I shall lose none of all that He has given Me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. » John 6:39 & 40. Speaking of His « sheep” He says: « I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of My hand. » John 10:28. As Jesus gives eternal life to all who trust in Him, He also keeps.

It’s Your Decision « For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son … Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him. » John. 3:17, 18 & 36
These verses in the Gospel of John say that you have the responsibility for your eternal fate in your hands. Jesus has done all that is necessary for your salvation and now offers you eternal life. « He who believes has everlasting life. » John 6:47.That is His promise.
What will you do with Jesus? Draw near to God in prayer and tell Him with all your heart that you trust in Jesus Christ in order to receive His salvation and eternal life.

Let us know of your decision so that we can rejoice with you and send you literature to help you in your new life of faith in Jesus Christ.

Aches and Praise

Aches and Praise Six Hundred & Fifty Three

March 15, 2024

Dear friends,

This morning, Karen and I drove past a cross on which a statue of Jesus hangs. It will soon be Easter, when we will celebrate the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Praise God that the Lord Jesus Christ, the sinless Son of God, is no longer on the cross. He is risen!

At one of the conferences of our mission years ago, Dr. John Moore shared some of the experiences through which the Lord led him. It was wonderful to hear him play an instrument and lead singing, including the well-known song that contains these lyrics:

“Days are filled with sorrow and care,

hearts are lonely and drear;

Burdens are lifted at Calvary,

Jesus is very near.

Cast your care on Jesus today,

leave your worry and fear;

Burdens are lifted at Calvary,

Jesus is very near.

Troubled soul, the Saviour can see,

every heartache and tear;

Burdens are lifted at Calvary,

Jesus is very near.”

You can hear more about the writing of this song, as well as see Dr. Moore singing, at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uybIZFRGW_U

In our office in Châteauguay, we have some copies of a tract entitled “Burdens are lifted at Calvary” in which Dr. Moore recounts an experience that he had when he was in Glasgow: “An ambulance arrived on the scene with siren screaming. Soon the crowd saw a young seaman being carried out on a stretcher and placed inside the ambulance. ‘What happened to Bill?’ they asked. ‘Oh, he fell down the hold of the ship, and has some broken bones.’”

The next day, Bill had his first visitor. He “looked up to see a tall young fellow about twenty-four years old standing by his bedside … Bill thanked him for coming to see him, and after some general conversation, John put his hand inside a bag he was carrying, and brought out a little colourful tract. It had a coloured print of a painting of ‘Pilgrim’ from the famous story ‘Pilgrim’s Progress,’ by John Bunyan, and was titled ‘The Falling of the Burden.’

‘Have you seen that picture before?’ asked John, as he held it before Bill. There was the scene of a man with a heavy burden on his back approaching a cross, and as he advanced towards the cross, the burden snapped from his back and was about to roll away.

‘No, it’s the first time I have ever seen that picture,’ replied Bill.”

After telling Bill the story of a man named Pilgrim who lived in the City of Destruction and carried a heavy burden on his back, John told how Pilgrim met a man called Mr. Evangelist who assured him that he knew where he could find the place of deliverance.

“Pilgrim followed the instructions of Mr. Evangelist, and eventually, after many an adventure, he came to the cross, and as he advanced towards it, the burden snapped from off his back and rolled down a steep hill into the gaping sepulchre below. Pilgrim gave three leaps for joy and shouted ‘He has given me rest by his sorrow and life by his death.’”

After telling Bill that John Bunyan was sharing his personal testimony in “Pilgrim’s Progress,” John Moore recounted: “I was fifteen years old when I had a similar experience. Some of my young friends had personally accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour, and were living transformed lives. I became quite concerned about my life, about my past, and about my eternal destiny. It was like a burden on my heart. Then, one night, lying in bed, while everyone else in my home was fast asleep, I was wide awake and found myself crying to God the first real prayer I ever prayed ‘O God, be merciful to me a sinner, and save me for Jesus’ sake!’ And somehow I knew that my prayer was answered. I experienced such a sense of relief, and joy.”

Many people have been blessed by the songs and messages from God’s Word that Dr. Moore shared from that day forward. If you have never asked God’s forgiveness for your sins and trusted the Lord Jesus as your Saviour, you can do so today.

Scripture for the weekend: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.” Romans 1:16 (NKJV)

Thought for the weekend: “When we come to the end of ourselves, we come to the beginning of God.” – Billy Graham
