Aches and Praise Seven Hundred and Seventeen

Dear friends,

Do you sometimes have a song in your head and you keep “hearing” the melody? For the past few days, I have been “singing” part of a song by Bill and Gloria Gaither:

Something beautiful, something good
All my confusion He understood
All I had to offer Him was brokenness and strife
But He made something beautiful of my life

No matter what trials we are going through, we can trust God to lead us. The writer to the Hebrews wrote:

“Let your way of life be free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said ‘I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.’” (Hebrews 13:5)

This year, Karen and I have been following a Bible reading plan. In the book of 2 Chronicles, the names of many kings are noted. Some of them loved God and others bowed down to pagan gods. Dr. David Jeremiah wrote: “When the apostle Paul was addressing the elite scholars of Athens, Greece, he described how the God of Israel is different from pagan gods: “Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things … For in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring’ (Acts 17:25, 28).

By God’s grace, let’s devote ourselves to loving and serving the one true God. To Him be the glory!

Scripture for the weekend: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort” 2 Corinthians 1:3 (NASB).

Thought for the weekend: “Reading and studying the Bible is a basic requirement for the Christian’s growth, and happily it can be one of his most enjoyable experiences from day to day.” – Irving James.
