Aches and Praise Four Hundred & Thirty Seven

January 23, 2020

Dear friends,

Thank you for your continued prayers for Karen. Yesterday, she went for a follow-up visit with the doctor who has been treating her for the past two weeks, as well as a corneal specialist. The pain in Karen’s right eye has lessened considerably, but her eyelid is not opening completely. She is able to be in lighted areas more than she was a few days ago and is resuming many activities.

If you live in the Montreal area and are interested in painting, you should consider coming to Châteauguay on February 1st. Our colleagues, Teddy and Linda Hoare, are planning their third “Paint Night” and would love you to join them. For more information, please call (514) 606-9411. The deadline to purchase tickets is January 28th.

From the time that I met Reggie Fleming, a professional hockey player, when I was a young boy (his parents lived on the same street as I did), I have been a big hockey fan. You can imagine my surprise when I heard that Ron MacLean and Tara Slone are coming to Châteauguay next weekend as part of the “Hometown Hockey” television broadcasts – https://www.ville.chateauguay.qc.ca/en/node/17543. I look forward to meeting them and asking if they know about Hockey Ministries International (www.hockeyministries.org), whose office is located in the building next to the Bell Centre in Montreal.

On January 13th, a minor earthquake south of Châteauguay sent shock waves to the surrounding regions. The whirring sound didn’t last long, but it reminded us of previous earthquakes which caused dishes to rattle in our kitchen. It is hard to imagine what powerful forces are at work in the earth. What a privilege it is to have a personal relationship with the One who calmed the seas and knows all about us!

Scripture for the weekend: “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Thy name in all the earth.” Psalm 8:9 (NASB)

Thought for the weekend: “There will be times in your life when God leads you out onto a stormy sea. From your perspective, it appears that you will drown … You have no idea how you will survive, but God knows. He is the One who has led you to this point, and no matter how rough your sea becomes, He will carry you on to safety.” – Dr. Charles Stanley (from “How to Let God Solve Your Problems”)

By His grace,

Steve
