Aches and Praise Seven Hundred and Sixteen

Dear friends,

Before you go to sleep at night, do you sometimes think about all the things that you had planned to do but didn`t do that day? I have been experiencing that a lot lately, as Karen and I have been doing several projects, including sorting through clothes. Our cupboard has some clothes that we no longer wear due to weight loss. We`re glad that we can give them to Linda and Teddy Hoare, who serve with MissionGO in Chateauguay. They distribute clothes to many people in the community.

As the temperatures rise, we like to spend time outside. Yesterday, Karen and I soaked up the sun for several hours while working in the garden. Listening to songs by Christian musicians helped make our work more enjoyable. In a book entitled “Come Sit Awhile: The Comfort of Rest and Reassurance” Roy Lessin and Heather Solum share several short expressions, including these:

“We can close our eyes knowing that God has His eye upon us…. We can sleep knowing that He is awake.

Our greatest rest comes when we trust in the finished work that God has done for us through His son. It is a gift freely given. It is not based on our performance, but on His love. He has graciously relieved us of the burden of trying to save ourselves.”

A few days ago, Karen and I were with friends, celebrating the birthday of Denis. We enjoyed a delicious meal and then had the joy of seeing Denis open presents, It reminded us of God’s gift to mankind: sending His Son to teach and heal and then to take our sins upon Himself on the cross. How wonderful it is to know that God knows all about us and wants the best for us!

Scripture for the weekend: “I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustains me.” Psalm 3:5 (NASB).

Thought for the weekend: “The word, stored in the heart, provides a mental depository for the Holy Spirit to use to mediate His grace to us, whatever our need for grace might be.” – Jerry Bridges.
