Aches and Praise Six Hundred & Fifty Nine

Dear friends,

There`s an expression “Time flies when you’re having fun” that came to my mind this morning. Karen and I are thankful for the many friends that the Lord has given us as we have served Him together in Quebec since 1982. It takes me longer to remember names than it used to, but the Lord knows all of us and loves us with a love that is beyond our understanding. Last month, we had the joy of seeing friends at Peoples Church of Montreal that we hadn’t seen for many years. It was also wonderful to meet people who started attending after we left to join Grace Church of LaSalle.

One of the gifts that I received for my birthday is a book entitled “Bright Hope for Tomorrow” by Chris Davis. In the Introduction to this book, there is the following statement attributed to Martin Luther: “There are only two days on my calendar: today and that Day.” Before the Introduction, there are several reviews by professors and authors, including this one: “Bright Hope for Tomorrow delivers exactly what the subtitle promises. Chris Davis has created a terrific biblical guide for allowing Jesus’ future return to transform us here and now. This is truly a must read!” Now you ask “What is the subtitle?” It is: “How anticipating Jesus’ return gives strength for today.”

If you grew up in a church where hymns like “Great is Thy Faithfulness” were sung, you might remember the words that Chris Davis chose for the title for this book. If you are not familiar with this hymn, you can hear Carrie Underwood sing it at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NT0HcAr9aeI

For those who understand French, I invite you to listen to a series of messages entitled L’amour de Dieu” (“The love of God”) by Pastor Michel Martel, who has served as the speaker of “La Voix de l’Évangile” since 1984. You can listen to these insights at: www.lavoixdelevangile.ca.

After persecuting Christians, Saul’s life was transformed when he met the Lord Jesus. Not only did his behavior change, his name also changed. In the first chapter of his letter to “all who are beloved of God in Rome, called as saints” the apostle Paul describes himself as “a bondservant of Christ Jesus.”

Who are you serving today? If you have repented of your sins and trusted Christ as your personal Saviour, you can have the joy of serving God, who loves you with an everlasting love. If you have never asked God’s forgiveness for your sins, what are you waiting for? As followers of Christ all around the world celebrated at Easter, the Lord Jesus triumphed over sin and death when He rose from the dead. He is waiting with outstretched arms to receive you into His family.

Scripture for the weekend: “And I do all things for the sake of the gospel, that I may become a fellow partaker of it.” 1 Corinthians 9:23 (NASB)

Thought for the weekend: “God’s Word teaches that the appearing of Jesus Christ in his resurrected glory is the Christian’s ‘blessed hope’ (Titus 2:13). Our hope is not vague wishful thinking or unfounded optimism. Our hope is Jesus and what he will accomplish when he returns.” – Chris Davis

By His grace,

Steve
