Aches and Praise Three Hundred & Fifty Seven

July 12, 2018

Dear friends,

On Monday, Karen and I had the pleasure of attending a wedding in Ottawa. If you live in that area and are looking for a special venue, we now know a place where the surroundings are peaceful and the staff are courteous and efficient. Given that the groom is in the military, it was not surprising that he arrived early to await his beautiful bride. We did have a nice surprise after the reception when we met a Christian couple who came to look at the room, as they are preparing for their wedding in September.

This week, a group of energetic and friendly teens (along with some enthusiastic and kind adults) is helping more than eighty children learn about God’s love in a Vacation Bible School at Grace Church in Verdun. Today, one girl was so proud of the ship that she had made that she kissed it! This reminds me of how much God loves His creation. The Word of God states that after God made the world, He “saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good” (Genesis 1:31).

It is encouraging to work with young volunteers at the VBS, as they are keen to come alongside older generations to serve God and help others. Please pray with us for the children and their families, that they would come to a personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. I had the privilege of teaching a Sunday School class many years ago, which included the groom on Monday. One of the ladies who loves to teach children at church was in a Sunday School class taught by one of my best friends.  You never know what influence you may have on others.

I heard someone on the radio this week talking about a movie based on a book entitled “The Five People You Meet in Heaven,” written by Mitch Albom. It prompted me to think about what is really important in life. Are we praying that the Lord will use our words and actions to lead others to Christ or encourage believers? May the Lord be pleased to bring glory to Himself through each of us.

Scripture for the weekend: “Then He said to them, ‘These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.’ And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.” Luke 24:44-45 (NKJV)

Thought for the weekend: “Mentors are students of people, especially their own children. A good mentoring dad knows … ‘what makes them tick, what tickles them and what ticks them off.’” – Stu Weber (from his book “Four Pillars of a Man’s Heart”)

By His grace,

Steve
