Aches and Praise Two Hundred & Forty Two

Dear friends,

There are times in life when we receive news that is very sad and we don’t know what to say. This was the case for Karen and me last week when we learned that Alvin Voth, the Vice-President of Global Outreach Mission (GOM), had been taken to the hospital. A few years ago, Al had a heart attack and we were very glad that he recovered and returned to the administrative position that he has held for many years. Now Al has been diagnosed with brain tumors and a biopsy is scheduled for today. Would you please join us in praying for his health and healing?

About a year ago, we learned that the health of Dr. Joseph Harvey, who serves with Global Outreach Mission along with his wife, Rebecca, in the Republic of Congo, had taken a turn for the worse and he returned to the United States for tests. We rejoiced when we learned that God had restored his health. Around that time, we met Greg and Donna Jouglard, who were preparing to go to the Congo with GOM. They are there now and helping in the radio ministry (http://www.congoradio.org/) near the Pioneer Christian Hospital.

Yesterday we received some more good news. A brother in Christ brought a cheque from his church for the ministry and our agent in Winnipeg informed us that “La Voix de l’Évangile” will begin broadcasting in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island on May 1st. Please pray that many French-speaking people will listen to the broadcast at 11:45 a.m. and that Galcom International will receive permission to build an FM station in Quebec City (a meeting with the CRTC is scheduled for Friday, April 29th).

Today is the birthday of Ed Hoyer, a friend who inspired me to join Operation Mobilization when I was studying Accountancy at Concordia University forty years ago. Ed was on the Logos, O.M.’s first ship, and went to India before returning to Quebec, where he has served the Lord in a variety of ministries. Karen and I had the joy of attending Ed’s wedding to Andrée a number of years ago and thank the Lord for their dedication to Him.

Scripture for the weekend: “Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever, for wisdom and power belong to Him.” Daniel 2:20 (NASB)

Thought for the weekend: “Grace is but glory begun, and glory is but grace perfected.” – Jonathan Edwards
