Aches and Praise Three Hundred & Twenty Four

Dear friends,

In last week’s blog I wrote about Caleb, who demonstrated faith in refuting the negative report of the majority of the spies who were sent into Canaan by Moses. Caleb lived wholeheartedly for the Lord during difficult times and when he turned 85, he boldly sought new challenges (see Joshua 14). A modern parallel to Caleb was the late Jack Wyrtzen, who founded Word of Life in Schroon Lake, NY and directed that ministry for more than 50 years. Jack had an exuberant love for the Lord and was still doing push-ups at the age of 80!

Yesterday, I listened to a message on the radio by Dr. Charles Price, in which he quoted a famous speech by King George VI. It is remarkable that the monarch bravely overcame a stammer in addressing his subjects in September 1939, shortly after England declared war on Nazi Germany. You can read the transcript of that speech at: http://www.historic-uk.com/HistoryUK/HistoryofBritain/The-Kings-Speech/. History not only repeated itself in the outbreak of a second world war, but the British sovereign battled the same physical challenge that Moses did.

Last night, I learned that Dr. Charles Price is no longer the pastor of Peoples Church in Toronto. His final message in that church is available at:  http://www.livingtruth.ca/LT/. In this historic sermon, Dr. Price shares how God led him in the past and exhorts the congregation to remain faithful to the Lord.

Are you going through a difficult time? Addressing the people of Israel, Moses declared: “And you shall remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and to test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not” (Deuteronomy 8:2). In Hebrews 11, Moses is commended for his faith as “he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king, for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible” (Hebrews 11:27). May we follow in his footsteps, forsaking worldly pleasures and faithfully serving the Lord.

On Monday, Pastor Michel Martel came to the recording studio in Châteauguay. Please pray that many Québécois and others will trust in Christ as they hear the Word of God preached on the radio network, as well as on the Internet.

Scripture for the weekend: “It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High.” Psalm 92:1 (NKJV)

Thought for the weekend: “The man who lives in God is never out of season.” – Vance Havner

By His grace,

Steve
