Aches and Praise Three Hundred & Seven

Dear friends,

When a friend phoned me last Saturday to tell me that he was with two champion billiard players for a week, my curiosity was aroused. I remember staying in Chuck Dutcher’s home several times while visiting a supporting church in upstate New York. When I saw him yesterday, the first thing he said was “You look fifteen years older!” We both have lost a lot of hair, but have gained wonderful experiences walking with the Lord. Seeing Chuck again and meeting Tom “Dr. Cue” Rossman and Steve “Leapin’” Lillis yesterday was a tremendous blessing. They are sharing the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ in a unique way by performing trick shots on a custom-made portable pool table.

“Dr. Cue” began the session by showing that just as billiard shots don’t always go the way we would like them to, so things in life don’t always go the way we would like them to go. When he asked if anyone had held a cue stick before, I soon found myself standing beside a Hall of Fame billiard player who set up a trick shot and showed me where to aim the cue ball. Although one of the four balls didn’t find its way into a pocket, three did! Steve Lillis, the founder of “Gospel Trick Shot Ministries” www.gospeltrickshot.org –  and Chuck Dutcher performed numerous tricks that brought smiles to those in the audience. After the session, I learned that Tom and Steve have seen the Lord open doors for them to share the gospel of Christ in many countries. They will be at Église Baptiste de l’Espoir in St-Hubert – www.eglisesthubert.org – until Friday night. I began reading Steve’s biography “But You Must!” this morning and thank the Lord for the privilege of meeting these brothers in Christ.

In last week’s blog, I wrote about the joy of listening to Christian music. The “Scripture for the weekend” below has been put to music and was one of the first Christian songs that I learned to play on the guitar when I was a teen. Whether you are young or old, it is never too soon or too late to dedicate your life to the Lord and ask Him to direct your steps.

Scripture for the weekend: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)

Thought for the weekend: “In New Testament times, treasures were not always stockpiles of coins. Since wealthy garments often represented a person’s holdings, Jesus spoke quite literally when He warned the people that moths could destroy their worldly wealth. It is better to place one’s hope in the Person and promises of God than in anything this world has to offer. ” – Dr. David Jeremiah (from “The Jeremiah Study Bible”)

By His grace,

Steve
