Aches and Praise Three Hundred & Ninety Two

March 14, 2019

Dear friends,

With the change to Daylight Saving Time last weekend, many of us spent a few minutes changing the time on clocks and watches. I heard a report on the radio about more heart attacks than usual occurring on the Monday following the change in time. Here is what one report on the Internet states: “The annual ritual in which we “gain” an hour of evening light by pushing clocks are turned forward may seem like a harmless shift. But each year on the Monday after the springtime switch, hospitals report a 24% spike in heart-attack visits around the US.” The article goes on to state that after the clocks are turned back an hour in the fall, heart attack visits drop 21% as people enjoy a little extra pillow time.” To read the entire report, please visit: https://www.businessinsider.com/daylight-saving-time-is-deadly-2018-3

As I drove home this evening, the sun was beginning to set and golden rays filled part of the sky. It was a wonderful reminder of how God takes care of mankind, providing light and warmth from millions of miles away. When we get overwhelmed by evil and difficult circumstances, we do well to turn our eyes to the Lord and thank Him for all of His blessings.

This weekend is Missions conference time at Grace Church Verdun. If you are in the Montreal area, you are welcome to attend the services on Friday night, Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon. Karen and others have been busy preparing an exciting program for children.

Several years ago, a gathering of mission organizations was held annually in Montreal. “Missions Globales” featured Christian leaders like George Verwer and Ray Pritchard sharing what the Lord laid on their hearts. In his book “Out of the Comfort Zone,” George Verwer writes: “There are so many areas where a lack of grace causes hurt and tension and positively hinders the work of God across the globe. So often our fellowship as Christians seems to be based more on minor areas in which we are like-minded than on the real basics of the gospel and the clear doctrines of the Christian faith – which are so amazing, and on which we should be more united.”

Pastor Michel Martel, our radio evangelist, came to the studio in Châteauguay today to record messages for broadcasts of “La Voix de l’Évangile.” Please pray with us that many French-speaking people will come to faith in Christ as they listen to the preaching of His Word.

Scripture for the weekend: “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 (NIV)

Thought for the weekend: “If you rearrange the letters in DEPRESSION you’ll get ‘I pressed on’ meaning your current situation is NOT your final destination.” (found on Facebook)

By His grace,

Steve
