Aches and Praise Three Hundred & Four

Dear friends,

When I took our car to our mechanic yesterday, he asked if our daughter had gotten married yet. He met Candace’s fiancé, Richie, a year ago when he needed some work done on his car. I told Pietro that the wedding will be on August 26th. According to an article published in the Montreal Gazette two years ago, the end of August is a popular time to marry.

What is not popular in Quebec is for people to marry. In fact, fewer Quebecers than ever are “tying the knot” according to a report issued yesterday by the Quebec Statistics Institute:  http://montreal.ctvnews.ca/fewer-quebecers-putting-a-ring-on-it-than-ever-before-study-1.3489794. A total of 21,300 weddings took place in Quebec in 2016, including 700 marriages of same-sex couples. If current trends continue, only 27 per cent of men and 29 per cent of women in Quebec would get married at least once before their 50th birthday.

In a book entitled “Lawfully Wedded,” Dr. Renald Showers examines what constitutes marriage in the sight of God. He writes: “The Scriptures plainly teach that God forbids any form of sexual love between members of the same sex. Paul regarded lesbianism between women and homosexual activity between men as perversions of the divinely ordained use of sex.” Such views are rejected by many today as being “not politically correct.”

It is interesting that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau gave Queen Elizabeth a gift after he received an honorary doctorate yesterday from the University of Edinburgh – http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/trudeau-scotland-queen-elizabeth-holyroodhouse-palaced-1.4191151. One day, Trudeau, the Queen and everyone will bow to the King of glory, as the apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 2:10. The Lord Jesus Christ extends His gift of salvation to all who will humble themselves and trust in Him.

Scripture for the weekend: “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.” Ephesians 5:8-10 (NKJV)

Thought for the weekend: “Believers must not only remove themselves from darkness, but they also have a responsibility to reprove (expose and stand against) the darkness.” – Dr. David Jeremiah (from “The Jeremiah Study Bible”)

By His grace,

Steve
